Myth 1: 'BaZi is fortune-telling'
The pillars are calculated by astronomy and arithmetic — solar positions, 60-day cycles, calendar conversions. No intuition is involved in casting a chart, and two accurate calculators must agree on the pillars. Interpretation adds the human layer, but the foundation is mathematical.
Myth 2: 'Your zodiac animal decides your personality'
One character of eight. Month, day and hour pillars — plus the day master, ten gods and element balance — do most of the work. Year-animal readings are zodiac entertainment.
Myth 3: 'BaZi is fixed destiny'
The classical texts frame charts as terrain, not script: the same land yields different harvests depending on weather (luck cycles) and farming (choices). Deterministic readings contradict the tradition's own literature.
Myth 4: 'BaZi and Feng Shui are the same thing'
Related vocabularies, different objects: one reads a person's birth moment, the other reads a space. They combine well, but a Feng Shui master is not automatically a BaZi expert.
Myth 5: 'You need to believe for it to work'
The calculation works regardless of belief — like the equation of time. Whether the interpretation offers real insight is the only question worth debating.
