Wealth in BaZi: Direct Wealth vs Indirect Wealth
5 min read · Updated 2026-09
Two wealth stars, two money styles
In BaZi, the element your Day Master controls is your wealth star — and its polarity splits it into two flavors. Direct Wealth (正财): the steady salary, the managed asset, money that rewards patience and loyalty. Indirect Wealth (偏财): the windfall, the side door, the opportunistic income that rewards speed and risk tolerance.
Neither is 'better'. A Direct Wealth chart builds wealth like sediment — slowly, reliably, and it stays. An Indirect Wealth chart catches waves — bigger peaks, deeper troughs, and a real need to convert wins into stable assets before the tide turns.
Where they sit matters
A wealth star in the month pillar ties money to career and public activity; in the hour pillar, to later life and ventures; hidden inside the day branch, wealth entangles with marriage. Multiple wealth stars with a strong Day Master suggest capacity to handle more; many wealth stars with a weak Day Master is the classic 'wealth you can see but cannot carry' pattern — the fix is strengthening yourself first, through allies, skills or credentials.
The practical question
Your chart answers one useful question: which money strategy is native to you? Building Direct Wealth means commit, compound, don't chase. Building Indirect Wealth means position yourself where opportunities pass, and accept variance. Fighting your chart's native style is expensive; working with it compounds.
