Strong or Weak Day Master? How to Tell (And Why It Matters)

5 min read · Updated 2026-09

Three questions to judge strength

First, the season: is the month branch's element the same as your Day Master's, or does it generate you? A Day Master born in its own season is 'in command' — the strongest single position in the chart. Second, the company: count the stems and branches that support you (same element, or the element that generates you) versus those that drain or control you. Third, the roots: does your element hide inside any branches, giving it a place to stand?

Why the judgment matters

Strong Day Masters can absorb pressure, wealth and authority — the reading often points them toward carrying more. Weak Day Masters perform through leverage: allies, mentors, platforms, timing. The classical rule: strong charts can 'bear wealth and officer'; weak charts need Resource and Friends to help them carry the load.

Neither is better — a 'weak' Day Master with excellent support structures outperforms an isolated strong one almost every time.

The honest limits

Strength is a spectrum, not a binary, and different schools weigh season versus company differently. Good readings show their reasoning — support counts, season relationship — so you can see why the label was applied.
