The Ten Gods Explained: BaZi's Vocabulary of Life
6 min read · Updated 2026-09
Relationships, not entities
The Ten Gods aren't gods at all — they're ten relationship types between your Day Master and every other stem in the chart. Same element as you: Friend or Rival. What you generate: Eating God or Hurting Officer. What generates you: Direct or Indirect Resource. What you control: Direct or Indirect Wealth. What controls you: Direct Officer or Seven Killings.
Each pairing splits again by polarity (same Yang/Yin or opposite), producing ten distinct 'voices' your chart can speak in.
The ten, in one line each
Friend: self-reliance. Rival: competition and shared fortunes. Eating God: craft, enjoyment, gentle expression. Hurting Officer: sharp talent that questions authority. Direct Wealth: steady earned income. Indirect Wealth: opportunity and windfalls. Direct Officer: rules, honor, responsibility. Seven Killings: pressure that forges. Direct Resource: knowledge and protection. Indirect Resource: intuition and unconventional learning.
Counting which gods dominate a chart — and where they sit — is how BaZi moves from elements to statements about career, money, love and temperament.
